QUEENSLAND
Whole spit pigs are available in a range of sizes. The easiest way to work out what size pig you need is to make an estimate based on the size of your gathering.
We can send our whole spit pigs to Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Gympie and the South Burnett.
Let us know if you have a butcher in your area that you would like your pig sent to – the pig must be delivered to an accredited butcher that already accepts deliveries from Biggenden Meatworks.
Your spit pig will be processed a few days before your collection date. We do not freeze our spit pigs.
The following is a guide only and is based on a serving size of around 300 to 350 grams of pork per person.
A whole dressed spit pig will usually yield around 60% of it’s weight in cooked pork. So, for example, a pig of 25kg will yield around 15kg of cooked pork. If you serve 330g of pork per person you could feed up to 45 people, but just make sure you do have enough to go round!
We take care of all the logistics, you just collect your pig from the butcher.
* delivery of $30 to Sunshine Coast may apply
ABSOLUTELY NOT! We DO NOT sell live spit pigs. All spit pig orders will be processed through our abattoir and sent to an accredited retail butcher for collection or delivery. Please don’t ask, there are NO acceptions.
Yanjala is a small-scale free range pig farm near Murgon, an hour inland from Gympie, Queensland (Australia), producing succulent free range pork.
We keep a very small herd of only 9 sows and 1 boar, which are all Wessex Saddlebacks. All of our pigs are born, raised and lovingly cared for right here on our farm.
We believe in ethical farming methods, producing high quality true free range pork that is good for our bodies, good for the animals and good for our land.
Our beautiful pigs are completely free range; living outdoors, in the fresh air, on open pastures. They have the freedom to do what they love to do… run, dig, forage, wallow and most of all, socialise!
We have chosen to grow Wessex Saddleback pigs for our pork. Wessex Saddlebacks are heritage breed pigs, ideally suited for living in the outdoors and make wonderful paddock foragers.
We do not claim to be organic, however our pigs never receive additives, chemicals, hormones or antibiotics. Just real… natural… slow grown pork.
Wessex Saddleback pork is much darker in colour than your usual supermarket pork. The texture is completely different, it’s extremely moist and melts in the mouth. It’s sweet and full of flavour, with a wonderful marbling of fat that produces incredibly juicy succulent pork.
